When people ask what makes us different, the answer is our instructors. We boast a staff of highly skilled instructors that were specially chosen because of their love of working with people and the water.
Each instructor goes through a vigorous training program that includes countless hours of in-house training. Our in-house training is where we take our staff to another level. The SASA training teaches instructors how to be the difference in a swimmers development. We focus on communication skills and overcoming mental objections that arise in the swimming environment. SASA instructors are athletes conditioned to provide an energy level for the last class of the day as if it were their first ensuring all students the level of instruction they deserve. |

Dean Wiederstein, Owner, Head Coach of the SASA Sharks |
|
| |
Dean is the Owner of the San Antonio Swim Academy and has written the curriculum that has brought consistency to eight locations currently throughout San Antonio. Dean’s aquatic foundation began in the United States Marine Corps as a Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival, where he graduated the Honor Graduate of his course in 1998. Through this secondary billet in the USMC he learned the importance of not just achieving a certification but learning the art of the constantly evolving practitioner. In running a Swim Tank on Camp Pendleton for two years he was able to qualify units in various levels as well as holding Swimming Instructor Courses.
Dean’s primary billet was as an Amphibious Reconnaissance Operator or “Recon Marine,” serving as a Team Leader in 35 recon missions in Iraqi Freedom. He has since graduated with a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Coach Dean and Coach Franchesca met in high school and have been married for twelve years. Coach is the proud Father of Four: Karen (9), Ella (7), Jonas (2), and Olivia (1mo). Karen and Ella are Shark’s which creates a true Family bond and Lead from the front mentality on the Sharks. |
